One of my Favorite Peter Drucker Quotes

“Only three things happen naturally in organizations: friction, confusion, and under performance. Everything else requires leadership.” Peter Drucker

A group only needs leadership if they are seeking to advance a cause, accomplish a mission, or produce something. If the group only serves the agendas of the individuals and they have no purpose larger than themselves there is very little for leadership to contribute.

Leaders, when they are life-giving, see clearly what others don’t yet see. That gift of perspective does not make them better than others but it is a vital contribution.

“THE BETTER THE PERSPECTIVE THE BETTER THE LEADERSHIP.” Bobby Clinton

Life-Giving Perspective includes –

  • Seeing a purpose for the group larger than themselves.
  • Seeing potential in each person to contribute to the purpose and empowering them to invest that contribution.
  • Seeing how to overcome the hindrances mentioned by Drucker of FRICTION, CONFUSION AND UNDER PERFORMANCE.
  • Seeing pivots and shifts in strategy and structure required by waves of change that will impact the goods or services the group is creating and delivering.
  • Seeing that leadership perspective can come from many sources. A single leader seldom has all of the perspective needed. So they stimulate and integrate perspectives offered by others.

They are NOT defensive or protective but DISCERNING and HUMBLE.
